Local Breweries Race to Take Home the Gold!

The Mill Chill adds an exciting fun twist to our race called the “Brewery Throwdown”.  We have 31 local craft breweries that have accepted the challenge of finding out which brewery is the fastest on foot.  To do this they are recruiting friends, customers, and employees to run on their team in the Mill Chill 4-Mile race.

When you register to run you have the option to pick a team, or simply let us put you on a team.  Your performance on race day just might be what it takes to earn the championship trophy for a local brewery!  The top five men and top five women on each brewery team will earn points.  The team with the lowest point total wins the trophy and bragging rights for a year!  Have questions?  Check out the FAQs below.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: DOES IT COST MORE TO BE ON A TEAM?
A: No.  Your normal race entry includes your assignment to a team.

Q: CAN I STILL GET AN INDIVIDUAL AWARD?
A: Yes.  The team competition does not impact overall or age group awards.  It is just some added fun for race day!

Q: HOW CAN PEOPLE TELL WHICH TEAM I AM ON?
A: Your race number will be a special color on race day (See the colors above).  We encourage some lighthearted smack talk among the teams, but of course remind you all this is a family friendly event raising money for Multiple Sclerosis.  Have fun but be kind!

Q:  CAN MY KIDS BE ON A TEAM?

A:  Yes!  Anyone age eight and older in the 4-mile race can be on a team.  We are a family friendly event and being on a team does not involve consuming alcohol.  Our participating breweries are kid friendly and visited by families every day.  We see no reason why properly trained kids shouldn't be able to join in the fun of a team.  Parents should ensure their child is properly trained and capable of completing a four mile run before signing them up to run.  Don't push your child beyond their limits.  We have a shorter fun run option as well to take the stress and pressure off of young runners while they build their endurance and confidence.

Q: HOW ARE THE POINTS HANDLED?
A: The top five men and top five women for each brewery team will earn points.  To determine the score we will take the overall finishing place in the race of each runner and total up the first five men and the first five women. For example:

  • 5th place male earns 5 points for his team .

  • 3rd place female earns 3 points for her team.

  • 70th place male earns 70 points for his team. . . Etc.

After we have 5 male and 5 female finishers the points are no longer added to the team totals.  The lowest point total wins.

Q: THAT SOUNDS CONFUSING.  WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?
A: Nothing!  Just run and have fun.  We will calculate the scores and announce the winner in the result.

Q: DO THE RUNNERS GET SOMETHING IF THEIR TEAM WINS?
A: Yes.  Bragging rights.  There is no additional award for being on a winning team.  You will have a chance to yell, cheer, high five, and hug each other when we announce the winning team however.
